In implementation of Activity “Ancillary activities and provision of integrated services in education, health care and other specific necessary areas of intervention”, group lessons in music and the Bulgarian language were launched in April. They included children aged 5 to 13 years. Educators and social workers from the team organized henna painting and music classes, which aroused great interest among the participants. In the organized creative workshops, the children’s communication skills develop, as well as their language abilities in Bulgarian. Music and Bulgarian language teachers work with children and parents to support the development of active speech in Bulgarian and literacy support.
From April 12, 2023, the provision of food, which is an auxiliary activity that will support the educational work with children, will also be launched. Fifty hot lunches a day, including soup, main course and dessert, are intended for the participants involved in the group activities, which are held at the Center for Integrated Social and Health Services at one stop in Stolipinovo district.
Inadequate command of the Bulgarian language is one of the reasons for the poor educational integration of the residents of Stolipinovo district, therefore one of the goals of the project is to create opportunities to overcome the language problems of bilingual children from an early age. Improving the language skills of ethnic minority children and adults aims to motivate parents to enroll their children in kindergarten, thus improving access to education.
Within the project, until April 2024, art and music classes with children, Bulgarian language classes with children and adults will continue to be held. In support of these activities, 50 people will receive a hot lunch per day. To improve access to the health system, 990 uninsured residents of the neighborhood will have the opportunity to receive free blood tests, which will start in May.
